Attorney Wendy Marcotte
Biography
Wendy Marcotte brings an astonishing resume to anchor the Firm’s Marquette office. Her considerable experience with management-side labor and employment matters is now being used on behalf of workers, where her perspective, judgment, and wisdom beautifully complement Roumel Law’s civil rights practice.
A graduate of Northern Michigan University and the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, Wendy moved to Alaska where she clerked in the Court of Appeals, served in the Army National Guard as a JAG officer, and then as an associate in the Anchorage Trial Group of Dorsey and Whitney LLP, assisting with labor and employment matters.
Returning to Michigan, she worked for Cleveland-Cliffs in Ishpeming, assisting with employment issues, negotiating labor contracts, and grievance arbitration.
Shifting to private practice in 2015, Wendy added municipal law to her experience. She served for many years as civil counsel to the County of Marquette, where she served as FOIA coordinator and provided legal guidance on employment matters, including hiring, discipline, unemployment, and benefits. She represented the County in administrative hearings, labor negotiations, and grievances, and was appointed special prosecutor to handle code enforcement and public health violations.
A tenacious litigator, Wendy represents clients at trial and appeal, with successful results at the Sixth Circuit, and most recently in an unemployment appeal at the Circuit Court.
Wendy has successfully managed Marcotte Law for over six years. In addition to her own thriving private practice, she has worked closely with Nick Roumel since 2021. Together they have successfully handled complex claims under the Whistleblowers Protection Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Currently they are working on a multi-plaintiff sexual harassment case, retaliation cases, and a constitutional claim against a local school district for failing to protect a high school student who was sexually assaulted.
It has been a natural fit – and the right time – to formalize the relationship between their respective firms, by officially designating Wendy Marcotte as “of counsel” to Roumel Law, as of April, 2025.
